Frequently Asked Questions
Where is First Baptist located?
Our church meets for worship, learning, and fellowship at 871 Main Street in Danville, VA. For directions to this location, please click here.
Where do I enter the church building?
There are four entrances at the front of the church that lead directly into the sanctuary where we gather for worship. For those persons who are interested in attending Sunday school classes and who have children, a convenient point of entry is from the church’s lower parking lot. There are steps that lead up to a door that opens into the church foyer where coffee and refreshments are served on Sunday mornings. Another entrance is located on the Chestnut Street side of the building. This is the primary entrance used during the week as the church offices are located on this end of the facility.
What kind of childcare and children’s ministries are available?
Numerous offerings exist for children of all ages from birth through 12th grade. For children from birth to four years old, we provide a nursery with trained and skilled staff to take care of our youngest guests. The nursery is provided on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening for the children of attending parents.
For children from kindergarten through fifth grade, we provide Sunday school on Sunday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
For youth from sixth to twelfth grade, we provide Sunday school on Sunday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Also, our youth meet on Sunday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for our youth Sunday activities and snacks called “Asylum.” “Asylum” is designed to provide time to socialize, hang out, and includes a small lesson on a Christian topic. From 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. our youth music groups practice and any who are interested are invited to be a part of it.

Where is parking available?
There are two main parking lots on either side and at the back of the church property. Additionally, there is a parking lot available across Main Street from the church as well as parking on the street. Parking for those with disabilities is located in both the upper and lower parking lots. There are signs designating parking for our guests that are placed on the street in front of the church.
What do you have available for those with special accessibility needs?
There are parking spaces designated for those with disabilities in the upper parking lot where there is a ramp for entrance into the church building and sanctuary. There is also an elevator located in the educational building that allows for access to every part of the church facility.
How are guests recognized in the worship service on Sunday mornings?
Each person present in the worship service is invited to sign the registry book that is located at the end of each pew. Those who are guests with us are free to share their address and telephone number at this time. The pastor welcomes everyone to worship with a greeting at the prior to the worship service beginning, but no individuals are singled out in any way.
What is the appropriate attire for the Sunday worship service?
A variety of clothing styles will be found in the sanctuary on any given Sunday. Many worshipers choose to dress formally while there are plenty of others who opt to wear more casual clothes.
